Three Months Off to have a Baby

Studying Yoga to Become a Teacher
‘For the past two and a half years I’ve studied to become a yoga teacher; this is having a profound impact on my view of myself and life in general.
During the time Quantum worked with us, and this is going back about seven years or so, our company was known as Speed Lock Ducting. We had 18 in our team and branches in Melbourne and New Zealand.
With my long term goals in mind, we set up the business so a competent General Manager (GM) could run the day-to-day operations, setting me free for other activities. Quantum helped us recruit the new GM we needed, along with the right support staff.
This enabled a painless succession process to take place when the GM completed his contract some two years later.
We have changed from a company that sold products direct to the industry, to one which wholesales all lines – in a business which needs less staff and less management supervision.
Our growth opportunities have changed from a relatively low level, to one where the sky’s the limit. For me, everything we have done stems from setting goals. And having the conviction to follow through.’

To Provide a Better Future for our Kids
‘My idea of running a business was to be involved in absolutely everything, feeling that if I let go, I was somehow letting it down – and that everything would fall apart. As it turned out, the business was running me and I was starting to unravel. I simply had to do something. It couldn’t go on that way.
In a nutshell, what Louise and William advised, was I should do what I do best – which is selling. And to show my wife Janine how to manage the business. Given that she had never run one before, this was a big ask. But full credit where it’s due. Janine did an excellent job, right from day one. She grew the business to 14 people plus four vans on the road.
All this – as well as looking after our kids – all in a days work.

Playing a Bigger Game and Still Having Time for a Three-Month Holiday
‘What Louise and the Quantum team brought to our business was order and predictability. I already knew how to set goals, having done it so many times before.
The difference in working with Louise was that, first, she stretched my thinking, and then coached me to have the confidence to play bigger, far more than I would have thought possible.
Louise showed me how to make plans that took me beyond the daily routine, well into the future. When I first started working with her my business was based in the second bedroom of our two bedroom semi.
Now the business has three offices, and 30 staff. Louise really freed my thinking – so much so that I was able to put together a team who can deliver – meaning happier customers and more of them.
The most important thing is that we’ve put in a management team who are able to effectively manage the day-to-day operations. That gives me more time to think about ways to grow the business and take it to the next level.
It has also meant that I have been able to take long and frequent breaks, including one that was three months. The key point is that Louise helped me put the structure in place so that I could follow through on a dream to take a long break. And if I can do it, so can anyone!’
